Memorial Weekend Fun

Here is a little story about our wonderful Sunday, that turned into a rather interesting day.

Objective: Get boat.
Goal: Get to lake
Outcome: Have fun.

It all began, with me waking up and being told get up, let's get ready to go to the lake, by my dear husband. He is a morning person, I am not. I feel horrible, as my allergies are killing me. But, nonetheless, I get up and get ready, do final preperations for our day out at the lake. Sunscreen, towels, snacks, lunch, bottled water, all ready to go and have a wonderful family day.

We hop in the Deisel and are ready to roll, to South Oklahoma, to Lake Texoma. We normally camp, but the campsites were not open in our usual spot, do to all the rain Southern Oklahoma has recieved. (Hint: Call lake to check on boat ramps, before heading out to lake) So, we are in Ardmore, topping off the truck, and hubby sees a guy with a boat.

Hubby: "Hi, Nice boat, I have one very similar, are you going to Texoma?

Man: "You know, the boat ramps are closed, all but 2.

Hubby: "Oh, really? Hum.. thanks for the information.

Man: Bye.

Hubby: Bye.

Well, after that conversation, I hop on the iphone, find some numbers and find out there is about a 2 hour line to get into the lake, with no boat and trailer parking. So, we went to the boat storage, checked on the nice boat we hardly ever get to use, and say "Hi" visit with hubby's uncle, and turn around to head back North, home. But, wait..... there is an animal park. Arbuckle Wilderness, a drive through animal park. So, we paid our admission and drove our truck through an hour and half park with Giraffes, Zebras, Emus, Llamas, Bison and more. Many animals would just come up to your vehicle and poke their head right in the car. Fun times, so our day was not quite a bust after all. It ended up being a great day with the family! Happy Memorial Weekend.

NO Inserts in Memorial Weekend Sunday Paper

As with most holidays, this weekend does not have any coupons. If you are local to Oklahoma, and see the Sunday Oklahoma, and it says save $500 with coupons on the front, it is WRONG! There is NO coupons, so if you buy the paper only for the coupons, then this weekend you can save your $2, and use this up coming week to get organized with coupons from previous week!

Rubbermaid Giveaway 20 pc Easy Find Lids Set

Let me tell you a bit about my experience with the great products at Rubbermaid. I was able to try a variety pack of containers with easy find lids, and now I want to share my experience. First, I have never tried the stay fresh containers, the ones in the green color, and was a bit hesitant as if they really would make my food stay fresh longer. So I tried this out with Strawberries. I was told to keep the berries uncut, when storing, so that is what I did. I only stored some of the strawberries, from same purchase, in the container, and left the other strawberries in the original strawberry container. This is what happened, the strawberries in the store container went almost bad before we could eat them. The strawberries in the Rubbermaid container, stayed fresher for about 4 days longer!

Another great feature with these containers, is that the snap and lock containers are just fun to use. I have had no staining so far in my Premier Set, and the original set with the red lids, are just a great set for all around use. Oh, and the lids... did you know that they snap at the base of the containers so you do not lose the lids. Yep they do, and this is easy to do. After the containers are washed, I snap the lid to the bottom and throw it back into the cabinet for later!

Now, I was sent these to try out from the Rubbermaid Blog, and am now able to give a set away to my readers. All of this said in my post, is from my experience, I was not paid, I was only given the product.

Here is what you can do to win a set, or you can go to your local Walmart, Target or grocery store to purchase them! Make sure you comment for each entry chance, I am giving you several ways to enter. Giveaway will end June 8, 2009 in the evening.

Free and Cheap: Things to do this Summer

Summer is fast approaching. We are now begining to wonder what to do with our children all summer long. I have some great ideas, thanks to the help of the Consumer Queen and MetroFamily Exploring Oklahoma! Here are some of our ideas.

1. Zoo Passes, they are good all year, the OKC zoo costs around $60 for the year. It makes a great gift as well.

2. Build your own sandbox, then place plastic bugs, or other treasures inside the sand. Your child can then search for the treasures!

3. Picnics in your backyard,

4. Your very own Camp out in your backyard! Cookout hotdogs, and more.

5. Do cooking classes with your children, this will help out with some of those reading and math skills, and the best thing about that, is they will not know they are learning, and they will be having fun as well.

6. Nature Hunts, make a list of items that you may find in your backyard. Such as acorns, leaves, pinecones, sticks, rocks, lady bugs, rolly polly's, and more!

7. Volunteer opportunities, check around your area, you can visit the elderly at the assisted livings, animal shelters, or recycling centers.

8. Make homemade playdough or bubbles.

9. Go to the movies, many theaters have cheap kids movies in the mornings, with discounted snacks and drinks.

10. Dollar Tree, has really inexpensive items, such as chalk, bubbles, water toys, and more. You can even buy a cheap foaming shaving cream, your preschooler can play with, this is great for there sensory skills.

Oklahoma great places to visit, Turner Falls, Great Salt Plains, dig crystals, Glass Mountain, and of course Martin Nature Park, this is actually located off Memorial Rd near Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City!

Also, for you Oklahomans, there is a publication coming out by MetroFamily Magazine, Exploring Oklahoma with Children and the Kids Pass with discounts and coupons. This will have coupons, and more ideas on where to go and what to do in the state!

Love Bug Clothing Giveaway

I was so excited when Love Bug Clothing Co, contacted me through twitter to send me a Birthday Shirt for my son's 3rd Birthday. They sent me the cutest shirt to try out on my son. It is made by Appaman, I had never heard of this brand, but I am pretty sure, these are the shirts that Jon and Kate's Children wear on their birthdays.

I let my son open the package, and out pops the shirt. He is like "Wow, it is a baseball shirt" (his older bro plays baseball) probably because it had a number on the front. The shirt is a baby blue, with a lime green number 3. As for the quality, I was expecting just a regular t-shirt. You know, the kind of material that you get from Target, Walmart, Old Navy or Gap t-shirts. Well this shirt is made with a heavier weighted material. It is a really nice shirt, and soft.

I took him to Target to get his birthday pictures taken, and he wore his new Appaman Happy Birthday shirt, and the blue sure made his baby blue eyes stand out. Thanks so much Love Bug Clothing, Co. for allowing me to have one of these great shirts, and you are right, they would make great gifts! You, my blog readers, can go check out these shirts,

They have offered a discount to you as well. Love bug Colothing is offering new customers 20% off first order, enter FIRST at checkout. All orders over $50 receive free shipping. So think birthdays, summer, or vacation clothes!

Now, for the fun part. Do you want to win, here is your chance to win, an Appaman Shirt, winners choice based on availability up to $29.99 retail value. As always, make sure you comment for each entry completed! Giveaway will run through June 1, 2009.

Stamps Price Changes again, Today!

Oh my goodness, stamps to go to .44 today! WOW... now I have to get a billion 2 cent stamps to go with my half used roll of .42, you know it is hard to keep up with the stamp price change. I had no idea of the price increase, hubby told me in the car on the way home from my mother's for mother's day. I was like, I had no idea the price was changing. He said I should, since I am on the computer all day (really I am not) so I am sharing my knowledge, so you may know, the cost of the postal stamp has raised once again... Now, my question to you, what is the cheapest first class stamp that you recall from your lifetime? Mine has got to be the .20 stamp.

Recipes: Grilled Chicken

This maybe kind of random, but last night we cooked out Shish-K-Bobs and Chicken Legs. I am going to tell you about how I cooked the Chicken Legs (drumsticks), and they were yummy... kids and grown ups loved them. You maybe thinking.. duh, I know how to cook chicken, but you know, I hardly ever cook this type of chicken, it is normally just the boneless skinless chicken breasts...So here it goes, short and sweet.

Ingredients:

1. Seasoning Salt
2. Pepper
3. Paprika

However many chicken pieces you want. I used legs, or drumsticks as some call them. Sprinkle the above seasoning on the chicken. Grill for 25 to 30 minutes. Done.

The best darn part of this, was that they cost $3.08 for 18 pieces.
Which is about .20 cents, a leg. What the heck.. what rock have I been hiding under, we will cook this meal more often!

Mother's Day 2009

Mother's Day, May 2009. As I reflect on being a mom, mother, mama, and mommy. Depending on my boys mood that day, I remember the day I gave birth to them. It has been along time since then, my oldest son will be 17 this year. I cannot hardly believe it, he is only a Freshman in HS, we held him back one year as he was struggling in school, and we changed schools, and well I would like to say academically he was doing better, but that would be a lie. So, day by day, we all struggle to help him reach his potential in the academic world. On the upside, he is a hard worker, helps with yard work, and is pretty a great teen. Oh, and as you can see from the picture, a happy big brother!

My other son, you could say he is the middle child, but not really. He was the baby of the family for about 10 years before the "baby" was born. He is a great student, and always willing to please, however I struggle to pull him out of bed every morning to make the bus, so I end up taking him to school daily! LOL... Okay, you are telling me make him get up, ride the bus, or make him walk 4 miles to school. Well, sounds like a plan, except he is a great big bro to his lil' bro who just turned 3, and has to sleep on the floor in his brothers room, because he says he is scared. Therefore, if lil' bro is sleeping in big bro's room = mom takes brother to school!

Now for baby bear, just turned 3, and I do remember the day I gave birth to him and the beautiful sunset we had on that day May 2, 2006. He is a joy, and keeps everyone on their toes. Today, as I lied down with him at nap time, (which he did not fall asleep, and dad is now napping with him) I looked at his pretty blue eyes, and remembered the days when he was an infant, toddler, and now turning into a preschooler. I know, that these times with him will pass by very quickly, as I have experience with the older boys. I know he will grow up fast, I know this, because the time has gone by quickly with his other brothers.

So to all you mother's out there with babies, toddlers, and little children, the years go by so fast. Then the children turn into teens, with their own ideas, and they think they are smarter then you, so savor your moments, as time flies, when you are a mom and having some fun.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mom's, the ones that wish you were a mom, enjoy your day being a MOM!

KFC Not Honoring Coupons

Okay, so I posted a few days ago that KFC, thanks to Oprah's help, was going to give every American Free KFC. Well, apparently now, no FREE KFC, go here to the KFC website to see more of this nonsence.

I mean really, you tell the world on Oprah, about FREE KFC, and you did not think you would be this busy? I am a bit disappointed in KFC, I understand that they have been bombarded, but they should of thought of that before doing this type of advertising, and I mean they got tons of Free advertising from Bloggers, twitter, and more! My cousin was a lucky one, and redeemed her coupons for a family dinner the day the coupons came out. She said, she loved the grilled chicken, and would go back now that she tried it to buy her own meal next time. So in this instance, KFC, gained a customer!

OH, well. I will get my raincheck, why not. It is a bit more work, wasted ink, and time on my part, but I will not let KFC win! I will keep you posted, and I am sure KFC will be busy redeeming rainchecks, then what will they do?

Cinco De Mayo Dinner

Here is the recipe I made for dinner tonight, my boys love this dinner. I would have a picture, but this food pic probably would not look very good in picture form. So here it is... do not know what to call it, do not know the original destination for it, so here is my way of making this Taco/bean cassarole:

1.5 pounds of ground beef
1 Package Taco Seasoning
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 can of Ranch style or chili beans
1 can of Rotel (or salsa)
A few slices of Velvetta
Shredded Cheese
12 Corn tortillas

This is what I do... I make the meat with taco seasoning. Then I add the next indgreideints. I mix up all together, then layer in a cassarole dish, with tortillas on the bottom, and then meat, then slices or chunks of velvetta, then more tortillas, meat velvetta, then top off the top with shredded cheese. Bake in oven, 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. You can serve with sour cream, chips, salsa or whatever else you may like. Makes great leftovers, could even stuff in flour tortillas the next day to make burritos.
