Homeland Catalinas Update 8/21/09

Here are 2 catalina deals at Homeland, not sure when the expire, but here they are.

1. Buy 2 Juicy Juice Immunity Juice, get $1 back. Price $2.39 each. Use .50/2 Juicy Juice Coupon, from 8/9 insert. The Catalina for $1, normally doubles, so this is a great deal on this juice, I am going to have to stock up on this since my son started pre-school.

2. Buy 3 Dole Parfaits or Gels 3/$5 through Tuesday, Aug. 25. Get .75 catalina. Use .55/1 coupon. If you use 3 coupons, 1 will double, the others will not. Also, inside some of the Dole Parfaits, there are coupons for $1/2. Which is good to use with .55 off, as they will all double.

Hope this info helps you with your shopping this week, go HERE, for my weekly Homeland Grocery Blog Post with coupon match ups!

Disney: Christmas Carol Train Tour

Today, Braddock and I went to check out the Disney Train tour, in Downtown OKC. Here are my tips for you if you should decide to go on the tour!

Time: 9am to 7 pm Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, 9am to 4pm on Aug. 23
Place: OKC, Downtown 100 EK Gaylord (Sante Fe Train Depot)
How long: We were through in under an hour. Which was good because we parked in meter parking.
Price: FREE, parking is $6 or $1 with Meter Parking, not a professional downtown customer, but meter parking may not be required for the weekend.
My experience, your experience may vary. When I got to downtown, we parked the car in meter parking, and took the stroller with me, since we had to walk a short block. Little legs do not walk to fast! Once we got there, we were greeted and told to go get a "ticket" (FREE) probably just their way to keep track of visitors. We went into the actual train station, got our ticket, and proceeded to the stairs where we left our stroller, and walked through about 5 train cars. This is what we saw, actual costumes from the original The Christmas Carol, pictures and artifacts. T.V. screens with scenes of the movie, a room where they explained the art of 3D animation and how it is done. Very interesting in my opinion. Then the next room, we made our own images and they were morphed into characters from the movie. Last train, was a fireplace and table of food (fake). Next we walked over to the theater area, where we were given 3D glasses to where. This was the little bit scary part. You know the story of The Christmas Carol, and Ebeneezer Scrooge, he is quite a scary looking guy, and the ghosts were in the short trailer we watched, and the animation and 3D of the movie was amazing. However, scared my 3 yo, and he did not want to watch the movie again! There were lots of children even younger then him in the theater as well. I heard no terrible screams or cries.
video Brief video of the 3D room. For more info, Go HERE.

Target: Coupons, Deals, and Helpful Tips

Did you know that Target has Target Coupons? GoHERE to print them off at home, or go to the Kiosk at the store and print them there!

Here is the how 2..

Target Coupons can be used with Manufactures coupons. So remember that helpful tip. Coupons change every 2 weeks, and the coupons do over lap in expiration dates, so I believe you can have a set of 3 different weeks coupons to use over the same time frame.

Target will often have coupons for fruit, veggies, meat, deli and dairy from time to time.

Which sometimes can mean free apples, bananas, grapes, broccoli, cauliflower, and more. Those are some examples of current and past deals.

Another helpful hint is to take advantage of Targets GC deals. When combined with coupons, you can often get name brand items such as Proctor and Gamble, Glade, Pampers and Huggies for really low prices!

Price Adjustments, Target will price adjust items bought within a 2 week period of time to the current sale price, just bring your receipt in to Target's Customer service to receive the price difference. (not valid on clearance)

I recently have heard that Target is now price matching, similar to the way Walmart does. Check your local Target to see if they are participating in this promotion.

I hope these tips have been helpful, and happy shopping! If you like my posts, and want to be up to date on the latest, subscribe to my blog, HERE.. and you will only recieve updates when I update my blog.

Why Stockpile and My Personal Stockpile

This summer I put my Son to work. I had a major disorganizational thing going on in my stockpile closet, and pantry. So, I enlisted him to organize. He did a great job, and the best thing is that I did not have to do all the work. So, do you stockpile? Here are my reasons why I like to stockpile.

1. When there is a sale, and I use my coupons, and get stuff for penny's of even free, I might as well buy up what I can! Why pay retail, for one item when I can get 20 for the price of one.

2. Life happens and sometimes you just cannot get to the grocery store. What in the world am I going to do? Well, I will go to my pantry and can make all sorts of meals with items I currently have on hand.

3. I have 3 boys, which 2 are teens! They love my shopping habits, they get all kinds of yummy snacks that I used to not buy, because they were to expensive but now, they get to try a different variety of foods. Bad thing is when we run out, I have to say, they do have to wait for a new sale before I will buy again!

4. Because it is so fun, and it makes me feel like I have a purpose, as I am a stay at home momma...

The Secrets of the Store..

Sales go in cycles, one week there may be great sales on tolietries, next week cereal, and so on. When I constinently buy items to stock pile, I am never forced to pay the retail price of items when I run out of toliet paper, paper towels, razors, and more! The more you shop, and watch for the shopping trends, the better you will become at this stockpiling game.

Some items that I wait to buy until they are super cheap or free.. here is my list.

1. Toothpaste (Free to .25)
2. Toothbrushes (Free to .25)
3. Shampoo, and other hair items. ($.50 or less)
4. Razors, (normally will pay up to $1.50 for venus razors I try not to spend more then that)
5. Cereal, .50 or less, is my goal.
6. Pasta
7. Ragu
8. Snack items, .50 or less

Be careful, if you over buy, and items in pantry are going to be wasting away donate or give to a neighbor!

Printable Coupon: Coach factory Store 20% Off

Alrighty, I have a problem, it is that I love Coach bags, hate the price. I have got to do something great with all that money I save at the grocery store! So this summer I went to 2 different outlets and bought these 2 adorable bags, one in Houston,TX and the other in Branson, MO. (Did I tell you I like to travel?) I made a vow to my husband not buy another bag this year! Might need a wallet, though, luckily I have a friend in Houston that can pick one up for me for 20% off. Now for the great news, their is a 20% off coupon here's what you do, go to this website, Coach Factory Offer , and register your email and receive a 20% off your next purchase, good now through Aug. 23, 2009. To find stores near you go to www.coach.com or call 1-800-262-2411.

Homeland Shopping Trip 8/13/09

I made a video about my Homeland Shopping trip, it was a quicky, I had a friend stop by, had to take one of my sons somewhere and had to get all the cold stuff in the fridge ASAP.. So take a peek at the video and I will try to do some explaining here the how 2's..

I used printables I gathered from HERE...for some of the Kellogg's products, like Cinnabuns, Kellogg's Special K bars, and more. You can print up to 2 coupons, per computer.

I had a peelie for $1 off fruit when you buy Kelloggs cereal (it was on the box) and a $1 off Kelloggs cereal coupon.

I also had my kelloggs fuel for school coupon booklet, $2 off bread, $2 off milk, and $2 off fruit. Used those when I bought my other Kellogg's items.

Tear pad, save a $1 on hot dogs or sausage links etc.. wyb 2 wonder hot dog buns or hamburger buns.

Buy 3 kraft products, get $2 off meat coupon. Found at the store. I bought 3 packs kraft cheese slices, used $1/2 coupon and got $2 off meat. Since I was buying meat anyways, it was like getting the meat free. (paid extra $1.59 for more cheese, but it was worth it and cheaper in the long run, plus got more cheese) Good thing my almost 17 yo loves cheese slices!

Other coupons came from the Sunday paper. I like to think of couponing as a creative, sometimes you buy things you really do not need at the moment to get things you do need. Check out my Homeland Shopping Post for more details.

Back to School Shopping, Helpful Hints..

Do you have a Walmart? Did you know if you bring in your ad, they will price match! So if you do not want to drive all over town, take all your ads to Walmart, and have them match the lower prices, however, they do not match ads with BOGO free, rebates, or other gimicks. But for the most part, this is a great way to get those deals, without going all over town.

Also, you may not know this but you can find some great deals at your local Walgreens or CVS drug stores, and after school starts, they will be marking all their back to school promo items down up to 75% then as well.

Another hint, do you have tons of jeans, that are in good use that no longer fit your child? Find a moms group, neighbors or friends and do a clothes swap. You could save tons of money this way, oh because you will not be spending any money!

Another great thing is shopping out of season, did you know stores are marking down up to 80% off summer clothing. In Oklahoma, it is still 80 degrees in October, so check those clearance racks, or stock up for next spring.

T.J. Maxx or Ross, discount clothing stores, you can get great hand bags, backpacks, jewelery, clothing and more, so it may be worth popping in one of those retailers as you search for back to school clothing.

Do you have a child that has to bring snacks to school once a month? Look for coupon deals, like the Kelloggs Fuel for School rebates, or other deals at the grocery store for snacks, breakfast, or lunch ideas. I have stocked up on all kinds of snacking items here lately, so I will be ready for those lunches and snacks after school.

I hope you found some of this information helpful. Subscribe to my blog here, so you will not miss out on other helpful information, printable coupons, and super dee duper deals, or just see what goes on in my life full of boys, teens, preschool and husband. I do not even have a girl pet! LOL.. have a great day!

Shopping for Preschool's

I just got my info in the mail for my son's Preschool. I signed him up when I was pregnant, because I was really wanting him to go to this particular one, and the lists can get really long, which equals no hope in getting in EVER!

I was a Child Development Major, in College, back in 2005. I was on the forever plan, then the never get a real job plan, due to bouncing baby boy in 2006. So, anywho.. Here are my tips.

Learning.. really, if your child knows his ABC's that is great. But does that really mean anything, but your child memorized a bunch of letters in alpha order. Counting, maybe your child can count, but do they know one on one correspondence? So, find a curriculum that incorporates meaningful learning. Where your child will learn what the letters mean, in a fun and creative way. Math is fun, when children are given items and are expected to sort or given blocks to build. Did you know there is important learning can be happening when a child plays with blocks. Do you want to learn more about Block Play? Read more, here.

Preschool, is about learning to get along, follow schedules, share, listen, explore, learn as they are "working" which is playing, which is what is a child's work. When your child is exposed to books, being read to, pretending to read, talking about what happens next, and that letters make words, can all be done by playing. So, look for a center that has resources that incorporate learning in a non traditional form.

Nothing makes me more frustrated, is when a parent expects their child to be "taught" in a traditional school way that is more appropriate for a 1st grader then a 3 or 4 year old.

When you walk into a Preschool, if you see a calendar.. run. Just Kidding, but really, children do not understand the whole calendar concept until Kindergarten, and that is pushing it! Does the center have these activities set up, Kitchen, Pretend Center, Items to be able to Climb on, Block Area, Quiet Area, Cars area, puzzles area? Will the center let your child make his or her own pictures, by cutting, using glue, markers, paints, is there an easel? Do the teachers use portfolio's to keep your child's progress?

Here are some different programs for young children, and the links to appropriate sites, to help you decide what program is best for your child.

Project Approach
Montessori- just because a school has Montessori, in its name, does not mean it is Montessori Certified
High Scope
ReggioEmilia
Theme Based Curriculum-basically what it sounds like, Fruit Theme, Vegetable Theme, Farm Animals theme. I am not big on this learning because, unless you are teaching English Language Learners.

I hope you found this post interesting and helpful. Good luck with your search. It is never to early to start shopping for your child's first school.
