How to Make Dumplings!

by Shannon on January 31, 2010 · 1 comment

Well, we are surviving the snow storm, 2010 here in Oklahoma and I am out of Bisquick. You know the easy stuff, you can read directions on the back, make dumplings like a rock star, and ta da.. you are a gourmet cook.

Alternate plan:

2 cups of Self Rising Flour
3/4 cup of milk

Mix
Bring boil in pot of soup. (I do chicken, chicken soup starter, veggies, and chicken broth)
Drop tablespoons of dough in boiling pot, cover 10 minutes, uncover for 10 minutes and that is it. Really it is that easy!

Our street is finally clear here in Tulsa!
I make my chicken & dumplings in the Slow Cooker, because it's easier with baby! Here's my version(you can use frozen or fresh chicken & veggies, I cook ahead then freeze, and then put the frozen directly in the cooker). 30 min-1 hour before you want to serve the meal, with slow cooker on high and chicken, veggies, broth are really hot, mix together:
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    2 teaspoons white sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup melted butter
    1 cup milk

then drop into slow cooker, replace cover and cook til toothpick test comes out clean.
